Bulletin 14-24 Member Alert

On Tuesday, March 5th, the Los Angeles Board of Fire Commissioners held their regularly scheduled meeting that included a couple of items of interest to UFLAC members. UFLAC President Freddy Escobar and Director Rich Ramirez were both in attendance and gave remarks on behalf of the membership.

President Escobar spoke against a proposal to make it easier to discipline our members through the Board of Rights process. He made it clear that the department’s priorities are misguided – pushing through a change in discipline while our members aren’t even being paid properly for the work that we do every single day.

President Escobar stated, “for over three years, our firefighters have not been paid correctly, yet the department and this commission chooses to focus on the discipline process instead of fixing our members’ pay.

Director Rich Ramirez spoke against a proposal to civilianize EMT positions in the LAFD and also addressed our paramedic shortage. He made it clear that UFLAC will never support the creation of a new classification in the City of Los Angeles for civilian EMTs.

The Los Angeles Board of Fire Commissioners typically meets at 9:00 am on the first and third Tuesday of each month. For more information about the fire commission or anything related to this particular meeting, please feel free to reach out to any Executive Board Member.
